Green Valley Lake gets a 100-pound bonus for 1st stocking
Green Valley Lake in Payson received 100 pounds of bonus rainbow trout for its first stocking of the season on Oct. 17, so anglers can expect fishing to be pretty good.

Green Valley Lake (take Main Street) is part of the Urban Fishing Program.

This special, season opening, stocking featured more 800 trout that includes an extra 25 percent more fish. Trout can be caught on small spinners and spoons, by fly fishermen using nymphs or wet flies, and by baits such as scented dough baits, worms or salmon eggs.  Remember to use lighter line in the 2- to 6-pound range, smaller hooks and a minimal amount of weight.

The Green Valley Lakes are stocked differently than the 19 other Urban Program waters in the Phoenix and Tucson areas.  Green Valley Lakes are stocked with rainbow trout for eight months of the year from mid October through early May at two week intervals.

Good populations of bass, crappie and sunfish can be found in this highly productive lake in Payson.

By the way, if you don’t have an urban fishing license or a Class A general fishing for 2007, you can get a smoking deal for the last two months of the year (November and December) when those two licenses are half price.

Help clean up Table Mesa Road area on Saturday
BLACK CANYON CITY, Ariz. – Come help clean up the Table Mesa Road area on Saturday, Aug. 20 from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Public and state lands in the Table Mesa area, southwest of Black Canyon City, receive heavy public use and are riddled with trash and debris. This has also resulted in damaged protected native plants, such as saguaro cactus, and often poses safety hazards, especially to those hiking on the Black Canyon Trail. A strategy is in the works to help reduce these impacts but until such time, volunteers are critical to make these on-going efforts a success.

All volunteers will be entered in a drawing for prizes donated by the organizations and in addition lunches, t-shirts and giveaways will also be provided. Safety training, trash bags and tools will be supplied as well.

Interested volunteers can sign up by contacting the Bureau of Land Management at (623) 580-5500, or the Good Gun Foundation at (928) 925-6068. Registration is also available on-line at www.goodgun.org or at the event between 7 and 8 a.m. Pre-registration is requested but not required.
