Rory:
Roosevelt:Aug 28 & 29
What a difference 2 weeks make. Last trip caught over 100 bluegills.
This trip we had a hard time getting enough to fish flatheads.
2 wks ago they were in 28-30ft of water. This trip we finally found
some in 12-15ft. not many big ones but enought to go after flatheads. meal worms & minnows.
For the 2 nights we got a 5- 18- & 21 pound flatheads.All on
bluegills. We had 5 more good runs but the fish won. I think
a couple of them might have been bass. We did catch one 5 pound
bass on a bluegill. Also 6 more on minnows.the're back in the lake.
And as usual 15 or so channel cats, all different sizes. Don't keep them either.

Crappie bite: Wow was it on. Best night was Sat. From 11pm to 1am
had a fish almost every cast. we use a 1/16 oz jig on bottom &
# 6 hook about 2ft above tipped with minnows. We were in 32ft
of water. would cast out about 25ft. Really have to watch the line
because they were hitting it on the fall. Sometimes just as it hit the water, very seldom made it to the bottom of the fall before
you had one on. 2wks ago they were all right off the bottom.
For the 2 nights we kept 88. No real slabs this time. Most were
from 3/4 to 1 1/4 pounds. Makes for nice filet.

We were in the same area as last couple of trips. Windy Hill &
Ship Rock. On the water about 4pm & off at daylight.

yellows under lights -- sounds like a great title for a fishing article. Maybe some of the guides like Art have figured out the crappie bite at Rosey, but I sure haven't, but it could be like when Pleasant was going through the new lake syndrome and the simply oriented to submerged woody structure, which now abounds at Rosey. But I have also gotten reports of folks hitting the slabber bonanza up there at night. Maybe hold your four leafed clover tighter or something.

Rory:
Roosevelt Sat. Aug 1st
Fished Windy Hill. On the water 4pm. started catching bluegill right
away. used meal worms & corn & few on minnows.they were 25-28ft
deep, just off the bottom.nothing shallow.caught over 50. kept 33
big ones.
At dark moved to 38ft of water in hopes of a good night on crappies.
Put out the lights & yellow bass went crazy. we had 7 that hit a pound.they are really growing.ended up keeping 21.
i'm not sure what we did wrong but only 3 crappies all night. tried
them shallow, deep, & everywhere else.

Fished till 5am. caught 5 largemouth,3 overs,2 in slot.all returned.
1 6lb flathead on blugill & 2 more good runs but the fish won.
Yellow bass & largemouth all on minnows also right off bottom.

Louis;
Black Canyon Lake is usually challenged with high water temperatures during summer, and that is why we suspend trout stockings. Also rom personal experience, I have always don't best via a boat at Black Canyon than fishing from the shore.

However, just down the road along the Rim is both Willow Springs and Woods Canyon lakes, which are top producers even during summer (especially on days when monsoon storms hit). Give them a try.

I went fishing the first week of July and left the Rim Lakes on the 3rd. I fished Black Cyn Lake w/o any success. There were several people fishing from the shore and I saw only a holdover trout caught. There were two floaters in the lake and none were pulled in by them. We fished in the late afternoon til sunset and I got no bites on any bait. Tried lures, spinners, worms and float bait, with no success. It had rained the day before and was very overcast, with intermittent sunshine. the same for Willow Springs and Woods Canyon.. Lots of fishermen but very few catches.
