<description>Long Lake is a long-shot that can pay off with some larger trout and maybe a big pike. Compared to Bear Canyon, it is visually challenged. Long sits on the eastern edge of the Anderson Mesa in pinyon and juniper country where the winds can make the trees grow lopsided. However, there is plenty of easy shoreline to fish. There is dispersed camping opportunities. There is a long, dusty washboard road to get there.

Bear Canyon is a picturesque steep-sided canyon lake surrounded by tall pines and fragrant fur or spruce. There is good shoreline access, but a short steep hike. This is a pure trout lake favored by float tubers and some who don’t mind portaging a canoe. There is dispersed camping opportunities amongst stately ponderosa. The short steep hike, dusty drive and lack of facilities keeps the hordes away.
