here ya go razo.
Central Arizona Project is designed to bring about 1.5 million acre-feet of Colorado River water per year to Pima, Pinal and Maricopa counties. CAP carries water from Lake Havasu near Parker to the southern boundary of the San Xavier Indian Reservation southwest of Tucson. It is a 336-mile long system of aqueducts, tunnels, pumping plants and pipelines and is the largest single resource of renewable water supplies in the state of Arizona.

I'm confused. Page 22 of the 2009-2010 Fishing Regulations lists the only restriction to the Salt River Project Canals is that White Amur are catch and release only. If fishing isn't allowed in the canals why would it be listed there and not under the section for Waters and Areas Closed to Fishing on the same page? I don't recall seeing any no fishing signs along the canals and SRP's website doesn't mention fishing except for giving a number to report the theft of White Amur from the canals.

Darron -- it may be time to explore that option again, but that would be a policy decision well above my pay grade.

I also remember fishing the canals and doing well back in the 70s when I was first stationed at Luke AFB.

And although angling on the CAP canal may not have been too much of a limiting factor on stripers getting into Pleasant, it would surve have been (and could be) a fun factor. A friend of mine, Ernie Bunch, who is the Vice Mayor of Cave Creek, shares your idea.

But there are no doubt lots of liability issues to consider. I guess the old days of "have fun but do it at your own risk" may have vanished under a barrage of lawsuits over the years.

Still, it sure might be worth exploring again -- brighter minds than mine might just find an acceptable solution for all.

Hey Rory, look how lake pleasant got flooded with stripers and Flathead catfish from the CAP canal. It would have been great if we could've slowed them down by hook and line. Don't you think it would be a great idea to issue a CAP canal fishing license?!?! Man, I live in Tucson and have to drive pretty far to get to the good fishing north of here. I'd pay good money to fish the CAP canal.I used to love fishing the SRP canals in Phoenix. It was great because if you didn't have alot of time you could just go to the canal. It's a bummer that there is probably a chance to go Flathead fishing right here close to Town but it's illegal!! I'm bummed.

Hey Rory:

Can you remove the darned "captcha" protocol from the anglers' survey? I can't get it to work on my system and I suspect i'm not the only one. I'd like to post my fishing reports and just can't get it done. Let me know. Thanks!
