TUCSON URBAN — All Urban waters received incentive stockings the week of Jan. 5-10.  These fish include many trout from 13-18 inches, some even over 4 pounds.  On average one in every four trout were over 13 inches with the remaining fish ranging from 11-12 inches.

Fishing is good to excellent for anglers using scented dough baits (such as Power Bait), worms or corn.  Small spinners such as Rooster Tails and Panther Martins, or spoons such as KastMasters and Super Dupers work well for trout in the early morning.

Fishing for catfish, bass and bluegill is poor due to colder water temperatures that slow down the

Caught:Nothing Just got angry and left
Technique:meps spinners
Comments:One couple came as I was leaving with easly 8 or 9 rods. The reason I left was a guy fishing a short distance from me would chum the water every 15 minutes or so, I told him that it was illegal but he just laughed. I haven’t seen a fish and game official at the park in several years, but then I don’t go but once every week or two. I hope you guys are writing some tickets. If not lakeside would be a good place to start, and keep the fishing pleasurable for everyone.

Where:Frye Mesa Reservoir
When:02/08/09
Caught:Trout
Technique:Power Bait or worms, or use a rooster tail small
Comments:Caught limit 3 weeks ago in about an hour. Only caught 4 yesterday. Best place is on the west side where the stream runs in. Trout are gathering there, some spotted were at least 14 or more inches but are getting wise to power bait. Need 4WD to get there but many 2WD vehicles have made it up there, so get the stocking truck up there and put more fish in. Water temp is low 40’s to high 30’s, fish are very active after 2 p.m. in shaded side of the reservoir.

KEARNY LAKES — Conditions at this lake have taken a turn for the worse and golden algae has caused a fish kill.  The Department and the town of Kearny continue to work on the problem.

ARIVACA —  Please use caution on the sides of the ramp.  Erosion has caused some problems and we are working to repair it as quickly as possible.  The fishing remains slow but a few anglers are catching some bass on crankbaits.  Anglers are asked to please be aware of your wake so as not to disrupt other anglers fishing from other boats and the shore.  Remember that all bass must be immediately released back to the water.

PENA BLANCA – Pena Blanca Lake is closed.

PATAGONIA —No reports of angler success have been received.  Warmwater species are slow but anglers are reporting a few bass on rubber worms.  Some anglers are catching bass as well while flipping the cattails.

PARKER CANYON — The store at Parker Canyon is closed and currently there are no plans by the Forest Service to re-open it.  Anglers needing a license will need to purchase that prior to arriving at the lake.  The fishing has been fair with some angler success coming in the early morning just after sunrise.  Anglers are reporting that worms and powerbait are working the best currently.
