ALL LAKES SUITABLE FOR STOCKINGS
Recent water quality test results from all 21 Urban Fishing Program waters were in the good to excellent range, meaning that all lakes are approved for fish stocking. This is especially good news for Desert West Lake in Phoenix that has endured high pH levels throughout January. Algaecide treatments at Desert West have finally resulted in lowered pH levels satisfactory for trout deliveries to resume. Program biologists continue to monitor all waters for pH, temperature and dissolved oxygen. Additionally, lakes are regularly sampled to test for golden alga. Testing is done by Game and Fish and lake management contractors hired by the cities. So far this winter, golden alga blooms have not occurred and no losses of fish have been reported.
