The channel catfish stocked into Veterans Oasis Lake in southeast Chandler this fall were recently joined by 4,000 new neighbors.  Last week, Game and Fish stocked fingerling and juvenile bass, bluegill and redear sunfish into this new fishery to start building a healthy, balanced fish community in this 5-acre lake.  The new fish residents are sure to enjoy the abundant food supply in the lake and the dense forests of aquatic weeds currently found there.  By the spring, some of these fish will be spawning and starting the process of building a robust fish population.  It takes two years to develop a resident fish population in new lakes, so anglers are encouraged to be patient and to exercise good catch and release techniques with all small bass and sunfish caught.
