Description:
The urban wildlife habitats at Veterans Oasis Park are becoming a haven for a variety of wildlife, especially birds and insects. Join an experienced naturalist for a guided walk that explores the plants and animals of the park's desert and wetland habitats. Bring binoculars, water, good walking shoes, and a hat. The walks are not fast-paced, and the terrain is easy. This program is free and pre-registration is not required. All participants under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. There is a suggested $5 donation, and optional guidebooks will be available for sale.

Students will perform experiments about the interactions that occur in the environment around us. We will explore how living things, including humans, affect our environment, and how the environment affects the life within it. This session is for "kids only." There will be sessions in January and February for parents and children togehter.

For all those kids young and old who feel the most comfortable around modern technology a GPS driven hike marks the spot! Geocaching is a game of hiding and seeking treasure. If low-tech is your more your style then this is still the class for you as we introduce you to Letterboxing! Participants seek out hidden letterboxes by cracking codes and following clues. The prize: a miniature piece of art known as a rubber stamp—usually a unique, hand-carved creation. Join Rio Rangers and Arizona Game and Fish Department and learn both! Utilizing games, activities, caches, and clues you will be ready go off on your own and find active geocaches and letterboxes located around the world!
What to bring: Enthusiasm, hat, sunscreen, water bottle, and gps if you have one.
Items provided: Snack, GPS units, handouts.
