We need your help! After many years, northern Arizona is finally building a shooting range and for this to be all it can be, we need volunteers to participate. Our first work party was very successful. Now we’re making it easier to schedule for everybody. Just mark of the first Saturday of the month on your calendar and join us.

Ayer Lake and Queen Creek are great places to see and photograph beautiful dragonfly species such as Blue-eyed Darner and Flame Skimmer -- learn to identify these colorful insects on a two-hour walk guided by Arizona State Parks Volunteers Roger Racut and Joe Marsala August 1; then our walk September 5 will be guided by with Pierre Device, and the October 3 tour by Joanne Henry.

May 19-20, The Arizona Elk Society has scheduled a work project on the Ida Grasslands. This project aims to restore the grasslands by removing juniper and jack pines. We will be cutting, lopping and scattering the small trees to open the grasslands. This project benefits elk and antelope as well as grassland species. It will open historic travel and migration corridors for the elk and antelope. The AES provides all the food and refreshments for the duration of the project. Come out and help, all you need to bring is tent or trailer, sleeping bag and elbow grease. Thanks for your interest. Contact tomschorr@arizonaelksociety.org. Arizona Game and Fish Region 3 office in Kingman will conduct a one-hour presentation on owls in Arizona. Non-game biologist John Kraft will be the presenter.
The presentation is open and free to the public, but seating is limited to 52. After reaching capacity, the doors are locked, so show up early to ensure a seat. The talk will run from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at the Mohave County Library in Kingman at 3269 Burbank.
