The Agua Fria Chapter of the Arizona Archaeology Society is offering a free lecture on New Understandings about the Route of the Coronado Expedition through Arizona, on Tuesday, November 10, 2009 at 7:00 PM at the Glendale Public Library Auditorium, 5959 West Brown (south of Peoria Ave). Membership is not required. Refreshments will be served. The evening’s talk results from the speaker’s own work and from discussions with other archaeologists and historians. The presentation includes images of known sites and artifacts and a look into the problems of identifying historical locations mentioned in early documents. The speaker will be Dr. Deni Seymour, a widely recognized expert on the early history of Arizona, native peoples and first contact with them. Her work has included study of excavations at the Spanish Presidio of Santa Cruz de Terrenate and Tubac Presidio. She has written three recent articles and book chapters on the Coronado Expedition.
