Thomas;

You’ll really enjoy fishing the Lower Salt, there is nothing else quite like it and it is just over the ridge from Mesa.

You can get the four-month fishing license at any license dealer, which means just about all the sporting goods stores, or visit our office in Mesa. The price is $39.75 and that includes trout fishing privileges (no trout stamp needed).

However, if you also like to fish the urban program lakes, there is an annual Super Conservation Fishing License that includes the urban fishing privileges for just $63 for nonresidents, which is one heck of a bargain for an annual fishing license. That means when you come back this coming fall, it will still be valid. You might even sneak in a summer trip to Lees Ferry for the cicada bite, which is a blast (the rainbows at the Ferry are currently spawning), or maybe Lake Powell for some of the best striper fishing on this planet.

Don’t forget we also stock trout in both Canyon and Saguaro lakes, which are both close to your winter residence in Mesa. You might also want to give Oak Creek a try along the pink sandstone cliffs riming Oak Creek Canyon that draws visitors from around the world (but not necessarily to fish). We even have a catch-and-release only section in the upper portion of the canyon that has both brown and rainbow trout to test your angling skills.

There is even some decent trout fishing in the Colorado River along the famous Casino Row in Laughlin. You can catch a trout, a show and a buffet all in one day if you like.

I am an eighty-one year old military vet, fly fisherman who uses catch and release only. I would appreciate info on your 2009 fishing license for visitors...the "special four month license with the trout fishing privileges at a bargain price." I have residence for the winter at the Twin Knolls Mobile Home Villa, 44 S. Hawes Rd. B-10, in Mesa (85208).

I would like to try my luck on the new 11 mile stretch just opened on the Salt River below the Saguaro Dam. May I have the cost and location of purchase for this special license. Tom Furlong
